There are many things we do in class to prepare for recital! Check-out our Recital Timeline to see all of the events that lead up to the shows in May!

In May, we will be hosting multiple shows with approximately 10 classes per show. Each class is assigned to a specific show according to your class’s day of the week. We do our best to create show assignments that benefit dancers taking multiple classes or with siblings, however, with many smaller/shorter shows, dancers/families will most likely be assigned to different shows. Each show will last 40-60 minutes.

LOCATION (for both Edina and Wayzata studios)
    Bloomington Jefferson High School
    4001 W 102nd Street, Bloomington, MN 55437 (map)

    AUDITORIUM
Jefferson high school has a very large auditorium, one of the largest high schools in the metro area with seating for over 1,000. There is also no balcony, so there isn’t a bad seat in the house! With this large of an auditorium, we are able to have more space to allow for distancing between seats if needed and to allow for a higher ticket limit per family.

PARKING: Throughout the weekend, there may be multiple school events going on in different parts of the building, therefore parking can be limited. Park in the main Jefferson lot and enter & exit Door #1. Overflow parking is available a few blocks west of the school at Olsen Middle School or in the neighborhood streets.

  • Tickets

    Ticket Info

    • Tickets are first come, first served/select your own seats format via an online ticketing company (starting at $18/ticket).
    • Dancers performing in the show do not need a ticket and children ages 4 & under that will sit on a lap do not need a ticket.
    • You will be emailed a ticket purchasing link and the steps to purchase in April.
    • There is initial ticket limit of 8 tickets per family. Once everyone has had a chance to purchase tickets, the remaining available tickets will be for sale on 4/25 if you need more.
    • Families that have to purchase tickets to multiple shows will receive a 15% discount at the time of checkout (discount is applied automatically – no code is necessary).
    • Ticket Sales close online on 4/28 – any remaining tickets will be available at the door on the day of the show.

    Ticket Prices & Show Assignments

Due to popular demand of shorter shows and the consistency of a dancer’s show being on the same day of the week as their class – we have kept the covid show format this season which entails all Monday (recreational & performance team) classes have their show on Monday, May 2 and all Tuesday classes on Tuesday, May 3, etc. This helps ensure dancers who take back to back classes or siblings that take classes on the same day are in the same show, as well as keeps our shows to 30-45 minutes. However, if you take two classes on two different days of the week, your dancer/family will get to experience being a part of two shows and a discount on tickets will be applied. Please reach out to lexi@platinumdance.com with any questions or concerns.

    Show Format History & Tickets

2019 & prior – We hosted 5 recitals on a weekend that were 1.5-2 hours in length. This included more classes per show, which creates longer shows, but did make it easier to get families into the same show or dancers taking multiple classes. We sold tickets through Dance Recital Ticketing ($16/ticket before the taxes & fees) and tickets were limited to 6 tickets per family.

2020 – We hosted a private family recital in the studio, as the season ended early.

2021 – We were able to get back into a theater, but were limited on the number of people that could be in the theater at a time. Therefore, we rented the school for an entire week and did 50 “mini shows” (20 minutes) by day of the week (2-3 Monday classes in one show on Monday, etc). Families received a randomly assigned seating pod of 8 seats for one flat “recital fee”. What a week…50 shows!!

Following our 2021 recitals… an all-studio survey helped us determine which recital format to use moving forward. The majority of families liked to see shorter shows. The majority also voted to select their own seats vs. a recital fee to allow for flexibility in pricing.

Our 2022 Recital Week…we were determined to create shorter shows for our families! We used our “covid show” concept combined with our regular recital format to create two “mini shows” each night. This allowed dancers taking multiple classes or siblings to be in the same show. It also allowed a higher ticket limit of 8 and allowed flexibility to purchase your own seats.

    Tiered Pricing
As costs increase to produce shows, we opted to move to tiered pricing (also suggested by families in our survey) rather than increase all pricing for tickets. However, there is not a bad seat in the house at Jefferson (one of the reasons we love this venue), so there is still a great option to purchase tickets at the starting rate of $18 per ticket.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding recital tickets & assignments, please reach out to lexi@platinumdance.com at anytime. I am happy to help to ensure your family has a great end of the season experience where you can support your dancer for all their hard work! We appreciate YOU and look forward to putting on a top-notch professional show for your dancer and families. ~ Miss Lexi

    ABOUT Picture Week

Picture week is required for all dancers, even if you do not plan on purchasing photos. This is a chance for us to professionally photograph each dancer in costume prior to the recital. We will be photoshopping all individual pictures together to create class photos, so all photos will be taken individually.

Pictures are held during your usual class day at Platinum (times may vary from your usual class time). A parent/guardian is required to attend picture week, as no classes are held this week. One parent per dancer of all ages should attend.

What to expect on picture day?

    > Dancers will arrive fully ready to go in costume with ONE parent – check the Recital Packing List to know which costume & shoes to wear!

    > Read our Recital Look Handout for tips on hair & make-up!

    > Follow the signs and meet in the picture waiting room.

    > Dancers will be called into the picture room, take their individual picture and are free to go.

    > Plan to be at the studio for approximately 20 minutes on picture day.

    > All viewing & ordering will be done online.

Linhoff Photography takes a few weeks to upload and edit pictures. A studio email will go out when the photos are ready to view online! Contact 952-927-7333 or orders@linhoff.com
